The website you linked, NSN-NOW is certainly an interesting and useful research tool for this hobby and many others. Had no idea that such an easy to access database existed, nor that it was a major source for government contracts or a way to source current manufacturers and parts application cross references.

I just looked up a random part number for the M37 out of one of my parts lists. I learned the same part is used on a Buffalo, several versions of the 747, an Airbus 319 and a Bell 47A helicopter, is provided by six different companies and that it isn't nuclear hardened. What fun. A door opened; thank you Just Me.

I was in a store closing and going out of business. There was a rack full of axle shafts. All unmarked.
I used the NSN of the ones I needed to get all the critical dimensions.
It was only a matter of minutes until I found all the ones on the rack that fit my application. And
That they were used on Scout and some other cars.
Bought them all for scrap weight value and didn't have to haul and store wrong parts.
