Valve Cover Gaskets

Post by ez8 »

Does anyone have an updated part number for NAPA valve cover gaskets for the M37?

The old parts cross reference pdf says VS36054, but putting that into the NAPA website returns two Fel Pro parts: FPG VS4253R and FPG VS4253C.
It's not immediately apparent to me what the differences are.

Rubber or cork.

Yes. That would seem to make sense with the R and C. Thank you.

I will add that the cork ones are the better choice. Rubber ones are very firm and are prone to dripping oil, whereas the cork gaskets compress and it's much easier to get a leak free job. Secret is paying attention to the covers. They are often warped and deformed from prying around the edges in removal and distortion around the bolt holes as a result of being over tightened. If cover edges are straight, bolt gasket surface is flat, and using cork gaskets, only moderately firm bolt torque is necessary to get a good leak free outcome.
