Ignition Key

Post by knattrass »

We made a simple L bracket to hold the ignition key. We followed the same style as the heater bracket. We used a marine grade on/off ignition switch. We also installed marine grade push/pull light switches. One connects 2 24v LED clear lamps packaged under the rear bumperettes for back-up lights/courtesy lights. The other works a rear cargo 24v LED cargo lamp that we fit into the round radio cable hole between the cab and the box. The bracket is 6" and should have been only 5 1/2" because the steering column close out panel warps around into the left side. We ended up slipping the panel in and adding a washer as a spacer to the left side.

Hi KNATTRASS, judging by your photo, it is clear you are doing a number one job on your restoration. While my m37 also came to me with a ignition key, I'm not sure it is an original feature. Are you going to use the original style 3 way rocker type light switch ?

Knattrass,

That looks great. Ya' know you are only a couple hours away from me, I think I may have you come on down one weekend this winter to help me wire my truck. I can't pay much, just food and beer LOL :D

Peter - our original was coated with 3 colors so we purchased a replacement 3 lever. Since it was the wrong color, we took the levers off, painted the levers and the switch, scuff sanded the paint off the raised lettering, and reinstalled the levers... so it was kinda the replacement 3 lever. There was never an ign key on these so yours musta been added by the prior owner. The reason we made the bracket was to avoid drilling holes in the dash and it would be easily removed IF we ever wanted to go back to stock build.
