Engine Journal and Bore measurements

I have an engine that i pulled from a ffpw, it's a little rusted but i was able to it apart so i think it's still well within the realm of machine shop rebuildable. I was wondering if someone has a link to the original bore and journal specs so i can check how far (if any) it's been over bored and re-ground. According to the numbers i found it looks like it's never been touched, so i think i'm in luck!

They are All in TM9-1840A. See if you can find a link to that.

Small block or big block flathead six? The FFPW had the small block through 1960, and the big block from '61 until the end of production.

truck is approximately a '52, it's the shorter head, must be the 230. i'll look for the listed TM. thanks!

looks like the crank hasn't been touched. but the block has already been bored .060 over. i measured 3.309" bore with my chinese bore gauge and caliper on top of a film of rust.

guess i need a block.

maybe the xm708 motor is salvageable :)

I can ship a running motor for less than it would cost just to bore and sleeve it. $125 per cylinder plus the cost of the sleeves. On top of that i'd need a full rebuild kit. It's a lot cheaper, according to the guy i talked to at the shop, if they are just boring and not sleeving

Wow! Things (prices) are bigger in Alaska! Sleeves are $28 each here and installing them is only a few dollars a hole more than boring.

some shops will still sleeve for 40 to 50 bucks a hole including the sleeve. but you could bore it out more than .060. quite a bit of material on these old blocks. but going over .060 might get expensive because you would probably have to order a custom set of pistons
