2016 Graves Mountain Rally in VA (September)

Post by CGarbee »

Just wanted to let everyone know that we will once again be hosting the Graves Mountain MV Trailrides and Rally at the Historic Graves Mountain Lodge in Syria, Virginia, over the Labor Day weekend.
Event dates are September 1-5, 2016.

We have over forty miles of trails (from very easy orchard roads to rather difficult ones that run along the mountain ridges) with excellent, experienced, trail guides...
Eastern NC Style BBQ supper on Saturday night, bonfire on Sunday night...

Vehicle repair facility (truck shop) on site.

For more info: http://www.gravesmountaintrailrides.com/

Hope to see a bunch of you there!

I just thought that I would let everyone know that we will be having a work weekend on July 2-4...
The Graves set off fireworks (professional, 45 minute show) on the 4th at 2100 with bands, food, etc. all afternoon leading up to the fireworks.
We will be meeting in the camp field each morning at 0900 to ride the trails and perform maintenance (trash pickup, brush cutting, etc.).

If you are in the area and want a preview of the Labor Day Weekend activities, drop on by (give me a shout beforehand so that we can be expecting you...).

A buddy of mine posted a photo on Facebook yesterday of his dog riding along in his M151A2 on one of the trails last year and it reminded me that I should let everyone know that this event is very dog friendly.
Your hound should bring a leash though so that they can keep you close when you are in the camping area... :)

UPDATE TIME

We have been up to the event site a couple times in the last month ensuring that the trails are clear and ready for vehicles. Managed to create another pair of loop trails on the mountain that can be run with five ton trucks (I am taking my M817 dump truck as my trail truck this year, so you know we have to have several for me to run on...).
Got a bunch of folks bringing M37s. I think that they are the perfect trucks for the event since they can fit on all the trails (some are more narrow/twisty than others) and just look good cruising around the area...

Shirt design has been sent to the shirt shop and we will have a bunch on site for folks to purchase. Those who indicated a desire to get one on their registration form are guaranteed shirts, others are on a first come basis.

Remember that we have an on-site vehicle repair facility (and have used it in the past to repair some trail trucks that needed some TLC during the event), just in case your vehicle isn't 100%...

You have about a month until rally time, so you still have time to make plans to attend...or to drag your friends along with you... ;)

I should advise everyone that this rally is very family friendly... with about a third of the attendees of the rally being wives, girlfriends, or children...
The location has plenty of activities (wineries, hiking trails, swimming pool, horseback riding, historic sites nearby, shooting range, etc.) for those who might not like to be immersed in OD/Forest Green/CAMO all day every day...
We also have plenty of cabins and motel rooms (and a restaurant on site) for those who don't wish to camp...
