Fuel pump ?

What is the correct color to paint the fuel pump? Also what should I use on the threads of the fuel fittings?

Engine accessories were painted black from the factory. The engines were silver. At the first overhaul, everything got repainted. For Army trucks, the starters and generators were left black, but everything else got painted OD. The AF required that the engines be repainted gray after being rebuilt, but the starters and generators remained black. Often, however, when a fuel pump was replaced, it was not painted. Therefore, an unpainted fuel pump would still be "correct" unless you're planning to do a "factory" restoration.

Is the black semi-gloss?
I plan on doing things factory when possible, but a lot will be done motorpool.

I can't say for certain, but I'd imagine it would match the black on the generator, starter, air cleaner, oil filler pipe (the cap on that should be red), distributor, etc. Semi-gloss would be my guess, anyway.

Tony at T&N left the casting plain aluminum, only painted the screws black.

I sent them a pump that was in the box of "stuff" from the previous owner - looked like it had been dragged down a oily dirt road. I was almost embrassed to send it. You are looking at the photo of it after. The only thing I had to do was swap the 2 top screws because the standoff for the heat shield was in the wrong spot to line up.

In re-reading this thread, I am again impressed how so many of the participants of this group do in fact restore thier vehcles to " factory" It must be that I am being influenced as I bought a spray painter (!) A big change for a brush it on reenactor man like me where all that matters is to keep the truck running for reenactment battles and parades. Well, with two jobs I don't have the time to restore on factory level but I think I will when my schedule changes, and just to let you all know I sure apprciate the level of quality I see among you all...

just got a rebuild kit from Tom at Then&Now. With any luck I'll be taking apart and cleaning my pump over the weekend.
What do folks prefer to use as a cleaner/degreaser? I was planning to use Simple Green since it's a bit more earth friendly. Your thoughts?

I just noticed something interesting while reading T.O. 36-1-3, Painting and Marking of USAF Vehicles. Section II, Para 2(b)(11) states that "engines, engine accessories, and components requiring repainting will be painted with full gloss, gray, color number 1610."

That description would seem to include the fuel pump.

I don't know what Army, Navy, or Marine Corps publications apply, but I imagine they offer similar instructions with regard to color.
