pics from our wheeling trip yesterday (video added)

Post by isaac_alaska »

Took the old beast out yesterday with a bunch of other off-road trucks, the M held it's own very well! even crawled right through several places where a jacked up wagoneer on the same tires but with a 383 V8 got hung up. he kept having carb problems so every time the truck would lean over it would stall out. All in all, a very fun day!

Isaac,
Looks like you have it running pretty well! How far did you guys go? I'd like to know more about how the M37 compares to the newer stuff on the trip?

I'm envious of the adventure, there's no place close to me where I can play with the truck. Little by little we are getting closer to setting the truck up to travel some distance.

The old truck was able to keep up with all the new trucks, even did a lot better than one of the other guys. Not sure if it was just the added weight, or maybe following everyone else, or being more conservative. They all had more speed but I went everywhere they did except for one hill I had to winch up. Probably should have tried in 2nd instead of 1st and take. Advantage of more speed. Could have gone faster with tighter steering (hydro assist? 8) ) and better brakes, but overall I was very impressed. Fun-factor is incredibly high, but it's definitely more comfortable with only two in the cab rather than 3 for muscling the steering wheel around corners and trying to grab for the shifter or hand brake.
One difference between this truck and nearly everyone else, all but one of them had diff lock or a spool or both, and mine still has full open diffs. Really thinking about getting an ARB locker for the rear to go with the new chromoly axles that are coming for it, if i see one go for less than full price i'll probably grab it up.

Temperatures lately have been 25-30 degrees during the day. we got some snow early and it just never melted.

These pics are from just north of Fairbanks, Gilmore trail/ Fairbanks creek trail, it wraps around Fort Knox gold mine and then in another 100 miles or so you end up at Circle if you keep following it.
