log book

Post by Cav Trooper »

I found a log book on ebay and have the canvas bag for it, now the question, where did they store the log book in M37's? I remember them being on the back of the seat on 151's.

How do the Vietnam era log books differ from the ones we use today? I haven't seen a older one.

When an M37 was issued to a driver and he signed for it at the motor pool the log book and trip ticket were handed to him/her at that time to be kept with you during the trip and filled out and turned in at the end of the trip. They were not stored in the vehicle but were retained at the motor pool to be reissued as needed. Getting caught by the MPs without one landed you in some serious trouble as it indicated the truck was taken not issued.

I remember signing for the 1/4 tons and the log book hung on the back of the drive's seat. Just wondering where we stuck the book in the 3/4 tons.

I don't remember what the logs looked like, I just got on on ebay that is 3 ring binder type, seems familiar. Don't know what the new generation ones look like, may be the one I just bought?

The log book bags I have, one is rubber coated/vinyl and the other is canvas, both have two clips on the upper back of the bags to evidently hand them on something with a vertical edge.

My unit used those bags to keep the TM's in. The log books were kept in the glove box while you were driving and turned in at the end of the day as Carter said. This book is from the 70's and the log book page I found on the internet.

Log Books/Vehicle distiches are the same now a days for the most part, the dispatch book is camo now but the TM book is still the same green color as the pic. I didn't know if there was another type or what not for a dispatch book used in 60's -70's.
