Fuel sending unit

What the best place to get a new sending unit? I have heard that some people will send you a m151 sending unit, will that work without any problems?

If you get one with a hollow blow molded plastic float, replace the float with shellac coated cork or something before you install it. That blow molded thing won't last. It will hole itself and sink.

I just got one from John at Midwest Military. I also replaced my gauge at the same time. If the sending unit and the gauge are not made to work together, if you get a reading, it may not be at all correct. This set I got from John is working fine. The new senders have a rubber boot type plug in for the sender wire, so your truck wiring may need a different end installed.

You make a Douglas to Packard pigtail. Mine came with one.

What kind of float did the one you got from Midwest have? Plastic? Cork?

The MWM sending unit had a plastic float. It has only been in fuel, doing its thing, for a couple of weeks now. So far, no problems with it.

They are, as near as I can tell, all from the same source unless they are NOS. Newstar is the reproducer. The stuff seems 50-50. I've had two major problems with the sender I bought a few months ago. (Dont remember if it was MWM or VPW.) The float ripped it self open from whatever reason where it was held on the wire arm. And a month later it quit again. This time a cold solder joint (very poorly engineered) that required drilling thr housing open to access to repair.
Disappointing, but expected from hecho in India, China or Indonesia parts.
