Need A favor folks, Distributor

Post by Wayne64 »

My friends,
I sold my M37 that I worked on for years, health of the wife and myself forced the sale. I gave a few extras to the buyer but started listing other parts on ebay. This is not a promotion by any means but a legit question on my one listed auction.
I did a full rebuild on a distributor, bushings, shaft and a Pertronix. After I listed it (and got a bid) I remembered a possible issue with it being a drop in. I always thought when I pulled mine for the switch out I could double check the position of the rotor flat to the offset on the driven end. Basically I need that relationship so when it gets sent out the the distributor isn't 180* out.
I hope I explained this correctly, or if someone has a dizzy out I would gladly call for the info.
Thank you all, wayne

Not sure if this is what you need but when the oil pump and the distributor are set up according to the manual the rotor should point to the 7 o'clock position to fire #1 plug.

Thanks Carter, here is my issue. I gave my manual to the new owner of the truck. I guess that is what I get for being nice?

I found what I thought was great clue in an old picture on Goggle by Wes (Cuz) It is still a little unclear but my answer is around page 246 in TM9-1825B. Any help? or as I'm two laptops later I don't have either Wes's email or his Jeep site.
Thank you, Wayne

On the military distributor with the offset end the distributor won't engage in the oil pump if its 180 degrees off. On civilian models it isn't offset so 180 off is possible.

Sal solved my issue with just a couple of pics. I had a 50-50 chance at it being right. Turns out it was fine, maybe I should buy a lotto ticket?
Thanks all,
