So What is the Definitive Answer

Post by k8icu »

Why did the M37 series trucks go to B1 instead of the A1 like most M series trucks have?

When I look at vehicles like the M38 and the M38A1 and say they are the same vehicle except for a few changes I have to ask myself what was the military thinking when they gave the M37 the B1 designation? The M35A3 is nothing like the M35A2. The M151A2 is far different than the M151 and M151A1.

So what's the definitive answer as to why our beloved M37s got only a B rating instead of an A rating?
M37s are HMMWV in my world!

That sort of designator wasn't qualitive, rather quantitive.

It shows more thought and research went into it, the "A" was dropped in favor of a better spec.

The only downside to the B1 issue was the rust propensity.
