Which OD?

Post by refit1701 »

I was looking at exterior paint colors and wondered which of the OD's is correct for my '53 M37. I'm looking to buy some Gillespie Coatings paint.

24087 should be the correct shade for your '53 (it is the same for my '54).

Have you checked out a company called TM9 Ordinance Products? They make a bunch of different automotive finishes for military restoration projects. After looking at their website, I was pretty impressed with the research they have done on color variations.

The PO of my truck had bought some GC Olive Drab which was listed as WWII and Post war 'till '53. It's a brownish drab.

So now I'll start over with 24087 I suppose.

Paint...

Go with Gillespie. I tried Aervoe from rattle cans and it seems to fade fairly quickly. It doesn't seem to hold tight either and chips easily.

BTW - 24087 has a slight brown look to it, so you should be good to go.

I use the aerovoe in my spray gun with a little lacqure thinner, and use the rattle cans for touch up and seems fine it does wear through on high contact areas like the pedals and entry point on the jeep but sems fine other then that and I think any paint will wear in these areas, our vehicles are all motor pool drivers :D anyone wants a pic of the m37 after I sprayed it let me know

Hey Tom,
Did you paint those front fenders, I wouldn't mind seeing 'em on your truck.
BTW, How's your Dad?
