Starter Question

Post by m-37Bruce »

It's been a while, so my feeble memory is not working well. Does the starter need to removed to replace the actuating arm, mine was fixed about ten years ago, not very well I guess? My son who has had minimum time in the driver's seat, pushed the starter rod to hard, jumped the arm, when I unjammed it, it broke in two?
I removed the 9/16 nut and shoulder bolt thinking it would simply wiggly up and out, no dice. I have had the starter out, but cannot remember if the arm stayed in place, on the starter?

My truck has a 230 from a WWII Dodge, a French rebuild (ca;1974) to be exact. I think I will need to remove the starter and have it rebuilt, your thoughts Sal?

You would be the best judge of that Bruce to have it rebuilt. I really cant say very much. All I ever did was cleaned the contacts in the solenoid that's mounted on top of my starter.

Hey Bruce, here is what the starters exploded view looks like, these copies are of a WWII Dodge WC's starter from a Dodge Master Parts Manual.

Fixed, welded the shaft added a nice thick rod for plenty of thickness, install tomorrow after the gym.
