Yes it can be done with engine mounted on the frame; but it isn't a fun job. You need small hands with long fingers. Nuts are on the back side of the flywheel and clearance is super tight. An open end 5/8" wrench is what it takes, no clearance for anything else. Don't even try it without a top quality tool such as a "Wright Grip" open end or equivalent, if you round of the hex on the nuts, it will be a chore even with the engine off the frame.

once the dog house is unscrewed and your far from the fine thread the job moves along quickly. a piece of rope and a small tree or 4x4 to span the doors will aid in pulling the transmission back. remove the three bolts supporting the ebrake and tcase levers. undo the four drive shaft bolts on the tranny output and rest the shaft on the shifter rods. then undue the four tranny to bell housing bolts. with the transmission safely tied up or lowered to the ground(if your in a nanny state or not stuck in water) its under the truck for the four bolts on the dust cover. the clutch cover can then be dropped but be careful as the disk will hang up in the cover till your halfway down then it will want to fall on your teeth so be ready. now make sure you have the highest quality tightest fitting longest open ended 5/8th wrench you can find. a combo wrench works good as it can be backed up with a second wrench to save knuckles. the flywheel should be stuck on the crank and will require a blow. if your alone leave in a bolt, the flywheel is heavy. wow neverseized truck can be done with box wrenches in the field in 6hrs
