Inner Axle Seals
I should get my new inner axles seals by tomorrow. Should I use some sort of flange sealant when I put them in or just dry.
Re: Inner Axle Seals
I installed mine dry-haven't had any issues but haven't logged many miles either.

Re: Inner Axle Seals
I used anaerobic gasket maker on mine, went with the belt and suspenders approach. I hate doing the same job twice, almost as much as I hate leaks!

Flange sealer will do you no good. The seal has to slide 1.5" to the seat, and any sealer you put on will just wipe off. Have you considered replacing the inner bronze bushings? This would be a good time to do it.

John brings up a good point about replacing the bronze bushing. Got some good ones from Charles at M series rebuild. One thing to remember if you change these out, make sure you drive the new ones all the way in until they seat. If you don't you will find out about it when you go to put your axles back in, and loaded the opening with grease! Not that I have or would ever get in a hurry to finish a project and make such a rookie mistake!
