Oil Pressure Gauges

Post by w30bob »

Hi Guys,

I know there were two oil pressure gauges used in the M's....one 0 to 60 psi and the other 0 to 120 psi. Which was used first (early trucks) and when did they make the switch?

thanks,
bob

Thanks Bert,

The only info I could find on this topic (on the web) was in regards to M38's. They originally came with 0-120 psi gauges but were field converted to 0-60 psi due to difficulty in reading the 0-120 psi gauges. Meaning judging 10 psi at idle on a 120 psi gauge was a bit tough....so they changed to a gauge range that was easier to see in operation. I assume they changed the M37 gauge for the same reason. ORD lists 2 oil pressure gauges, but only has a part number for one......and I've found gauges with that part number in both 0-60 and 0-120 psi.

regards,
bob

The oppsite goes for the bigger trucks. All my 5 tons have 0-60 so when its cold or running at RPM, its pegged. Only when they are hot and at idle, will they come down off 60.

If anyone has any 120 senders and gages with the packard connector, id be interested.

I have a 120 sender w/ Packard connector in my M37, I've been looking for a 60 sender w/ Packard connector - I'll trade ya.

The gage in my dash is a 60 so it reads funny attached to a 120 sender.
