Engine Data Plates

Post by m-11 »

Stupid question, do all engines have data plates? I'm asking because of the three trucks I own, the 51 has a data plate that shows it was rebuilt but the 53 & 54 don't have any plates. So do I assume that these engines never had data plates unless they were rebuilt?

Correct, plates were added by the military to indicate what was done, Cyl. bored? crankshaft mains and rod journels turned? also who did the work and when.

Thanks Carter, I thought this was the case because my 51 has 40k whereas the 53 19k and the 54 has 14k.
