Machining stamps

Hello Gang,

As some of you know I have been busy to my 86 year old mother who suffered two strokes about 10 days ago, she has heart issues as well and a lung infection. Not looking good . Thanks for the continung well wishes and prayers.

I finally got a little downtime and escaped to the mancave. I decided I would rebuild my spare engine this winter. It has been done before in its life. On the back of the block it is stamped:

R-.020
M-.010
B-.040
Of course that is the rods, mains, and bore. However below that there is also stamped:
R-0012
M-0013

I cannot figure out what this could apply to? Any clues?

Could it possibly be the clearance between the rods and the crankshaft and the crankshaft and the main bearing caps?

Sorry to hear about your mother, I went thru the stroke thing with my mother last year. Not fun. I hope everything goes as easily as possible for all concerned.

We hope for the best with your family, David. Sorry I have no idea what the extra stampings might be, but my engine has a rebuild tag and I'll see if it lists what those are....

Best wishes to Mom. Mikes statement is right on the money. Side clearance of the rods and mains. It's great to see this detail when getting into a rebuilt motor showing that the shop and guy doing the work had some pride of workmanship. That is quickly becoming a lost practice.

Mike, HB, yep, I bet that is it, the side clearance. With all that has been going on my mind was mush and I needed some guidance. I will measure and see if those specs on the block are still in tolerence then order up some parts..
