Who has put in a roll bar?

Post by powerwagontim »

I know several of you have built and installed a roll bar. I am contemplating the same, but am not looking for the big rock crawler cage look. A simple but strong hoop that will fit below my canvas top and frame.
I have no issues with the fabrication, but am curious how folks have fastened them in. Simply bolting them to the body seems weak, even with a good sized backing plate. Bolting through to the frame would hinder the cab movement independant of the frame, without huge holes in the floor around the tubes.
Ideas on what you have done would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Tim

Oh tell me its not so???

You should get in the M-37 and meet us for breakfast at 9 am in colchester..............should be a good morning for a M-37 ride. You can meet some other local M-37 owners.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the invite, tempting though it is. I had a full day planned for today, and then found out about 3 Power Wagons for sale up in Eden, and had to go up there and buy them! I burned up half of my day doing that, and so tomorrow has to be spent catching up for todays unplanned yet very worthwhile mission!
Thanks,
Tim

Well maybe one of these days I will get back down your way to say hi. I know how worth while missions are. I dragged home another M-37 this summer myself.

When I bought my latest M37 someone had installed a very nice roll bar in the front of the bed.
It has support arms going back to the hump on top of the wheel wells.
The whole shootin' match is bolted to the bed and wheel well humps with backing plates on
the underside. It looks pretty stout. Cursory measurments indicate the roll bar will clear the
canvas. Maybe this and the artic top will save my bacon if I ever roll the old girl.
A four point seat belt harness (Simpson) is in a box waiting to be installed.
Yippey-kayaaa... hold onto yur hat!
Would be happy to send you pic's. of the roll bar setup but Will have to do that via email cause
this old fart still can't figure out how to post pic's on g741. Lemme' know............

Tim, are you contemplating a simple hoop behind the seat, or more of a four legged cage inside the cab? It is hard to imagine a hoop having enough strength in all the needed directions with only one connection point to the frame on each side. It would be nice to have a clean install though, with no pillars up by the window.

Monkeyman,

I signed up with Photobucket and posted a couple of pictures. I don't know how to attach to this post.

when you look at the picture you uploaded to photobucket underneath it will be a few different links, copy the "img" link and paste it into the area where you type your message to post on the forums and the picture will show up.

Kelley,

You did a very nice job on the rollbar. Your dog looks like it's ready to go for another ride.

Tim, I bet you have seen this truck before. http://m37.wawii.com/2007.4.html. He has a beefy single hoop roll cage. Probably way better than a stock truck, but it could still fold forward or backwards pretty easily.
