Pulling the water pump?

Post by knattrass »

OK - this makes no sense to me. Was looking to slip the pump off yesterday...ha. The rad shroud appears to be a poor design because you have to pull the rad to get it out. To get it out, you need to disassemble the 4 bolts on the fan(tight space), pull fan, spacer, then undo the radiator and shroud together because the lower rad return neck prevents the shroud from pulling straight up and out. Now I have the full front end of the truck laying on the floor?? Any other way to get the shroud into place without removing all of this?

I went ahead and pulled the whole grille, radiator, shroud, fan, and water pump. It actually isn't that bad. I don't think there's any other way to do it. Plus you can paint and refurbish (if neccesary) your radiator.

OK -thanks.

Is there a place to rebuild this water pump or would you recommend a new one?
