ADD-A-LEAF SPRINGS
I am putting a 360 into my M-37. I want to add extra leaves on the front springs for the extra weight. Does anyone know of any bolt on kits out there that will fit the stock front springs?
Re: ADD-A-LEAF SPRINGS
wouldn't the 360 weigh less than the stock flathead ?
.............................. use it ...............
Re: ADD-A-LEAF SPRINGS
The weights I've seen say the 360 is about 200 lbs. more.

Re: ADD-A-LEAF SPRINGS
From my experience with add-a-leafs, I would stay away from them. Their spring rates are usually quite different than the factory spring leaves causing the originals to bend right at the point where the add-a-leaf end.

Re: ADD-A-LEAF SPRINGS
Well, adding a winch would add about 250 to the front, so if you're running a non-winch model, the 360's engine weight would be close to the 230 with winch, so the springs should support it. I know of no kits to add leaves; perhaps you could cannibalize some plates from an extra spring and add them.

I would have to agree with Paul and Gary.

Re: ADD-A-LEAF SPRINGS
Thanks for the input guys. I already have a winch mounted. I reckon I'll have to find some old springs or some material from a spring shop.
Re: ADD-A-LEAF SPRINGS
Years ago, (well, decades, actually
) Weyerhaeuser Logging Co. had a standard spring modification they used to do to the surplus M-37's they bought. I believe they added 1 to the front and 3 to the rear spring packs. We would see their trucks occasionally when they would sell them off (being a logging company, the trucks were pretty hammered).
I don't know how this worked out for them, but their trucks were pretty much off road all the time.
I may not even be remembering the number of leaves correctly; it was a long time ago............

I have some extra leafs that you can cut and add. I think I added 3 per front side when I had the Hercules Deisel added. See thread at:
