Wanted: Radio Shelf for Bed
I'm looking for a radio shelf/bracket for the bed of my M37 GT. I recall there is one that bolts to the driver's side in front of the rear wheel well. Not sure where to look in the TM's so I have a not so good pic in my memory to go by.
Re: Wanted: Radio Shelf for Bed
Not sure what you are referring to, Warren. There are brackets that bolt to the wheel wells in the bed that support the troop seats because of the added fixed load and there are radio mounts (MT-XXX) for specific radios that mount on the troop seats.
I have some of the radio mounting (installation) drawings for some radios in the M-37 / M-42. Maybe they would help if you know which radio set-up you want to mount.
If you are mounting radios in the back of a gun truck though, that was probably a local field fab.........

Re: Wanted: Radio Shelf for Bed
Thanks, I'm going by memory from last Sept (not a good thing!) when I picked up the truck. The seller had me help to remove some parts that had something to do with a radio install. At the time, I was more worried about getting the truck loaded and home before it rained (got 50/50 on that one) and wasn't even thinking about a radio install. After your response, I think you are correct, they were support brackets for the troop seats to hold the extra weight of the radio gear which was attached to the seats.
I'm going with a RT-524 and MT-1029 mount and was just looking for a quick and easy way to do the install. I know the GT guys fabbed what they needed but they also made use of whatever they could lay their hands on if it meant saving some time and effort. I'm just carrying on that tradition!!

I've got a couple of the troop seat support brackets if you want measurements or pictures. They are pretty simple pieces of angle iron.
Let me know if that would help.

Thanks, I think I'll just fab what I need when the radio arrives. That way I can use existing holes etc.

No, Just the opposite. Seats are out. I thought there was a radio shelf but turns out it's just an additional support for the seats when using the seat as a support for a radio.

I know you did not use steel for walls so I don't know how you would rig it but many guntrucks used the passenger seat back and welded it to the box with the diamond plate, it made a great radio table.
You still have the spare tire in the back?
