Bed Box Issue

Post by Wayne64 »

I thought I would post this just as info for any future box builders. I spent a whole day yesterday in 93* sun trying to hang my drivers side box side. I couldn't get the inside gusset bracket to even come close to lining up with the three bottom 7/16 weld nuts? It also seemed like it wouldn't sit down far enough? Today less heat and no beach brain I pulled the side back off. What I discovered in short order was the inside bracket was bent out of 90* I'm so happy I picked that side first as my passenger side was still loose. The picture below shows my passenger side bracket which is square, my drivers side was probably tweeked 15* out of square and after heating I brought it back straight. I had bought a complete box but the brackets no doubt came off a truck that had been hit. So just a heads up, unless you use your originals check them for square.

I just reassembled mine after painting and my gussetts were true. Pretty rusty and had to drill out 3 sheared off bolts and retap but were solid. Very heavy coats of rusty metal primer prior to putting back in. No pics entered yet. Maybe tomorrow.
