A friend of mine posed a question today, The truck needs to be run on leaded gas dosen't it? Will the truck run on the reformulated pig swill we have now?
will lead additive work? can the engine be modified to run on nolead?

The truck will run just fine on regular unleaded gas. Eventually, the valve seats will erode and have to be replaced but most folks don't drive their M37s all that much. I ran a '55 Pontiac on straight unleaded with no lead substitute for 10 years, putting 60,000 miles on it in the process. It was still running just fine when I sold it, but the new owner plans to give the engine a complete overhaul and install hardened valve seats anyway.
If you plan to do an overhaul, replacing the valve seats at that time would be a good idea and won't add a whole lot to the cost. For now, running it on the "reformulated pig swill we have now" isn't going to hurt it.
