fender heater dimentions?

Post by RMS »

i have been trying to find the right place to mount my air compressor for my lockers. the best thing i can come up with is to mount it in a stock drivers side fender heater box like this one Image

Check your left front fender for 4 bolt hole knockouts in a rectangular pattern, if they are not visible it's likely that they have been painted over with several coats but a close look should reveal their location.

You can find a lot of those fuel fired heater housings around. You'll want the mounting bed or plate and the cover. Very few people seem to use the fuel fired heaters (they will drive you out of the cab on low in the coldest of winters - ask me how I know :D ). They are truly meant for the arctic.

It will be far easier to modify a stock mount and cover than to fab something and make it look stock.

Just a suggestion to think about.

my truck is canadian and most likely spent time in the great white wast or some one was having fun with a hammer, for all the knockout have been knocked out. including the large key hole on the passenger kick pan, the four on the drivers side and three on the passenger fender....it was looking at the four knockout holes on the drivers fender that gave me the idea to mount the air compressor on the fender.

I'll look around in my stuff. I think I might have the pieces you need. I've got a bunch of old fuel fired heater covers and parts. It might take me a few weeks though. I'll sent you some pics if you PM me your email address. You might also look at deuce and 5 ton heater covers, which are bigger and boxier; but they should still fit.

The photo in your last post is an engine coolant heater system (like a regular car), not a fuel fired heater system. The first photo is a M-37 fuel fired heater on a truck with an arctic shelter on the back (photo is a "birds' eye" view).

You might also try VPW and Midwest Military. Also check some of the large scrap / junkyards advertised on Steel Soldiers; they might have what you are looking for.

Good Luck!
