Compatibility civilian to m37

Post by Jared »

Thinking about buying a rusted out alaskan beach rig 46' civilian power wagon for parts.
Does anyone know if the motor tranny and transfer case are compatible with my 52' m37?

They will fit. The yokes on the tranny and transfer case are different, but you can swap them out from the ones on your M37. most of the M37 engine accessories will bolt on, but there are differences. The front engine mount is different, and the main pulley is larger. The timing chain cover is different. Oil filler is different, but thats a tough one to swap, it needs modification. Oil filter and bracket are different, distributor and oil pump are differenent, make sure you stay either military or civilian on those, as they work together. Early Power Wagon manifolds are different, but later ones are the same as M37s. Carb is way different, fuel pump is different. When I say different, they are still a bolt on swap, except for the oil filler. The early Power Wagon tranny is a non synchro, but the shift tower should match your tunnel opening. Transfer case mounting brackets need to be swapped to the M37 brackets.
Thats the lions share of the answer, I am sure I missed something, I havent had my coffee yet!
