Hi Guys,
Looking at lots of pics of M37s I see most don't use the canvas door straps to limit door travel (so they don't hit the fenders when swung open). I have found a few trucks that have the straps, but not many. Seems most use a metal arm in the door that attaches to the cab frame to limit door travel. Was that a running change in production? I bought a new NOS door and it doesn't have the holes to secure the canvas strap......so I'm curious. My M37 is a '52 model.
thanks,
bob

Re: Door Stop Straps VS Metal Limiters
My understanding is that the metal door retainers were the standard at least on the early trucks. The later B1's maybe not. On my 53 there is no doubt there are supposed to be the metal retainers. Mine are so shot I doubt they can be replaced without some significant welding so I'm thinking of just installing the straps as a field mod.
Re: Door Stop Straps VS Metal Limiters
Bob,
I believe all m37's came with the door check arms. The canvas straps may have been like many other "fixes" done to these trucks over the years. There are other things, like wood or rubber blocks under the clutch and brake pedals, that were done to a lot of trucks that are not considered correct. The check arm brackets in the door are usually messed up badly. New ones are available from John at Midwest Military http://www.midwestmilitary.net/m37p13.html
I made my own brackets and bought nos check arms on ebay. Here's a link to my build thread. The door check arms are down the page a bit. http://www.g741.org/PHPBB/viewtopic.php ... ett#p34529

Re: Door Stop Straps VS Metal Limiters
Thanks for the reply guys.
Brett...........I think you're right. When I looked real carefully at the pics of the truck I'm buying I can see there is an arm mounting tab behind the canvas strap in one of the pics. So these straps were probably quick repairs, as you stated.
thanks,
bob

On my truck I plan on making door stop straps as part of the "upgrade".
M37s are HMMWV in my world!

I plan on using the limiter straps off of a Jeep Wrangler.
