steering wheel color

Post by Gerry »

My truck has an OD steering wheel. Is that the original color? Is there both black and green from the factory?
Thanks,
Gerry

Gerry,
I believe they were all od originally. There may be some black repops out there. I painted mine black.

I'm thinking that they are black underneath, paint OD and turn black from wear.

The VPW ad says NOS, but that could be NOS of someones reproduction wheels, not neccesarily factory NOS. They state "Excellant quality" as if they were describing a repop item.
George Mainieri has a bunch of repop wheels he had done, and he took great pains to get them done the correct shade of green. His wheels are top shelf, and sell for 2/3 the price of the VPW wheels.

Is he the one selling them on Epay?. If not how do you contact him. VPW has repo and nos listed.

I'd call Bob Stahl or John at Midwest. Bob would have take-offs, John would have true NOS if he has any. Both would know what color they were.

Originals, when there was plenty to be had came in both OD and black. AB Linn had bunches of both at one time. I imagine they are all gone now though, as I'm sure he would be selling on ebay if he had them.

At least this is proof for you that they could be had as original either way back in the day; so either would be considered correct for M37.
