Where to buy tires in CT?

Post by CTgreen »

My tires are really old, cracked, and just generally shot. My spare has the tread coming off the carcass! It looks like it was a retread. When I took it out of the bed, it was so heavy I couldn't lift it. When I stood it up, suddenly the bed started to...fill with water! The spare had a split in the tread area, and had filled up with rain water over time. Anyway, I have burned my eyeballs staring at the computer screen reading about tires. Can anybody recommend a place in CT that can sell me a set of tires at a reasonable price? I don't have to have military NDT's, but I do want something that is good in snow and mud. Thanks for any suggestions. H.

Narrow rim is going to be a problem in trying to find a tire the same height as the NDT... a good choice is the STA Super Lug in 9.00x16 size, if you can find them locally. The military has been selling M101A1 trailers at auction with these tires on them; this is how some folks get 'cheap' replacement tires... :D

http://www.stausaonline.com/light-truck/superlug.html >> You might contact STA & see if they have a local CT distributor.

See if any shop in your area carries them... I know that Coker Tire sells them thru Summit Racing -

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/COK-71014/ >> $243.00 each. Then add cost of new tubes & flaps...

Been going thru the same thing. Universal Tire carries STA and Firestone, you could arrange to pick up tires at the April MV show in NJ as folks often do that to save shipping. You'll need a pick at least....
Locally, try Connecticut Tire in Kensington, CT for civie tires.

How large is this show? I used to go to some COMVEC shows years ago, but haven't been in a while. I went to a show at Aberdeen once, years ago, and it was awesome. I had a Welbike displayed, and a guy from an island off the English coast bought it, took it apart, and wrapped the pieces up in his suitcases. Customs would love that today! H.

Norwich Tire can get just about anything AND they have lots of experience with split ring rims. Not sure how big the markup is.

Thanks for the post for the show, Looks like it is worth the couple hour drive to get there. One can never have enough spare parts.

The MTA show has been growing and is now probably the 2nd largest in the NE, following Gilbert, for the number of vendors.
COMVEC should be a good show this year, it's a week later than normal (trying to get away from the rain!) and is a 35th anniversary so we're trying to put together a great event. There should be a very interesting M-37 there this year, never seen at a COMVEC show before!
