USMC M37 Front Weld On Lifting Shackles

Post by 51willysm38 »

Does anyone know the dimensions of the u-bolt shackle or is there a leaf spring u-bolt that can be used, just cut the threads off?

If you mean the "paper clip" loop on the front bumperettes, I can measure mine later today and post it for you.

That would work. I have seen several versions, some small diameter and larger. Good measurements would be appreciated and then I can bend cold role dowel to those specs. Thank you.

OK, on mine, the inside measurement is 4 and 1/2 inches across while the inside height from the bottom end of the rod to the center of the loop is 7 inches. I measured my left side straight loop, not the bent right-side. The rod itself looks to be 1/2 inch.

Thanks. 7"s sounds so short when you look at pictures. I have a 1953 winch model and the shackles were removed, all else is their. At present I am mounting a 1956 hot water style heater I found new and complete in the original box. Truck runs and drives great, just touching it up a little.

You're welcome! I'm still trying to get used to the USMC bumperettes on my US Army M37-figure they'll be good for hanging the massive military chain and snatch block accessories....

You got me on the bumperettes. I haven't noticed any difference except the USMC rear shackle brackets that are specially for those.

New info. X-Marine I know told me the front shackles are made from left over half track spring u-bolts.
