Windshield frame weather seals ?

Post by Wayne64 »

First off I must say I screwed up and didn't pay attention when I removed the bottom frames sealing rubbers. Even if I did I would still check because of all the wrong things I have found done on this truck so far.
1. The small 2 hole end seals have two holes and one is counter sunk so the screw is deeper, which way do they face please?
2. The long seal looks like it gets installed with the raised lump on the outside and pointed up?
With the amount of work I have done on this I don't want to mess up now. What I can say is the next owner will have it easy as all the 10/32 philips head screws in the windshield frame will be S.S. with never-seize on the threads.

Stainless is not a cure all. It is softer then cad plated standard 10-32 screws. If you overtorque them they will stretch where they are engaged in the threaded area and relax where they protrude on the back side and then later when you try to remove them the phillip indent will strip very easily.

Can anyone answer my questions, or supply a photo? I went through the photo album and couldn't find any to help.

Are you using TM 9-8031-2? The top of page 338 states grooved and tapered edge towards the outside of the window.

Can't help with any photos and I have a hardtop on mine right now.
