Springs and Pins

Post by dotgain »

I am restoring an Canadian M37 and hoping to get some help regarding front and rear spring pins and bushings.

I have ordered new pins and bushings for my front and rear springs, bushings have an ID around .750-.760 and are sloppy on the pins.
I understand that there will be some compression on the ID when pressed in the springs/frame/shackles however I have concerns it will still be sloppy on the pins.
The manual specs. .735-.740 for the spring bushings when installed.

How much of a reduction if any in the ID can I expect after installation?

Thanks for help.

Paul.

I don't have exact measurements but you want to have a little space in order for your grease to flow. The recess in the pin holds more but you also want some on the outer ends where the pins are in contact with the bushings. I just replaced my rear springs and also replaced the pins due to lack of maintenance aka no lube.

Thanks for the reply.

The manual is what got me wondering more than anything but it must be incorrect at .735-.740 for the spring bushings as the pin size in the manual is .745-.747 which is larger and would not pass through the bushing.

I have about 13 thou. difference in the bushings to the pins which will likely reduce a bit when pressed in so should be okay and leave enough room for grease.
