I've been applying stripper to the inside walls of the bed-lots of coats and I'm down to the original OD and primer for the most part. Time to bust out the body grinder and flapper wheels. Oh, since my gas tank is still out, the bed opening made for a natural collection dump for all the old paint flakes-just attached a plastic bag to the mounting bolts then swept everything into the hole-neat and tidy.
More to follow,
Gary

Re: Strippin' that paint...
That sounds like a good tip. I will be going the media blasting path myself due to the rust, but if I had a bed in good shape I'd give this a try.

The only time to use a "flapper wheel" is if you are going right down to the metal. I let my crew use one on just the paint on my Gama Goat and it turned out really uneven. Good luck. I prefer to media blast even though it is expensive.

Thanks Tom,
Yes, I'm going down to bare metal, as I want to start with a good rust-inhibitor, to slow the ravages of mother nature....

Looks like you are making some good progress Gary, are you planning on disassembling the entire cargo bed?

No, I don't have enough free time, and extra space. Too much effort would be involved w/o much payoff. I want to retain most of the "character marks" and also want the truck dressed in the Army OD 24087, so I'm retaining a weathered look in spite of fresh paint.
