You know something Tim, I have no idea! It was there when I bought the truck and can only presume it stops some part of the windscreen from scratching the hood. Although it is so much hassle lifting the cab off I dont think I will ever use the truck
again with the windscreen folded down anyway.

I found a nice set of electric wipers in Australia. They are an 11" blade with 110 degrees sweep and are self parking. They are 12volt though. Is anyone here running something like this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/24V-12V-DC-D ... 2c5790dce6 for 12v parts and for todays 12v accessories?

How about telling us some more about your wypers, a pic maybe?
I have no experience with the type of converter, you should be able to find a similar type of electronic unit here in the states?

They seem pretty similar to the cheap ones I see all the time, so I am a bit leery. I might buy one and see how it works. If anyone here has an opinion I would love to hear it. I do not drive in bad weather if I can help it, so I really do not need wipers. I addition, I have to bend down to see under the top of the window, so large powerful wipers which block my vision even more are not what I am looking for.
The link for the 24/12v transformer is just what one of the suppliers of the wipers recommended. I will try to find something here in the US before I pay shipping from Australia. I have been looking at 12v wipers since there are so many more options out there. If the transformer works well, it would be handy to power a 12v socket for charging phones and other small devices as well. I am done with the center tap off the batteries as it causes too many problems
Monkeymissle, thanks for the link. On their product description it says the converter is not for motors, headlights, or selenoids, or electromechanical devices unless the inrush ampacity is less than the rating of the converter. I will need to get the wipers to see what they draw.

D'oh! Sorry about that. I'm using mine for a stereo, backup lights/camera/warning horn (can't see anything behind an M43!).

The converters will work, I just need to buy a large enough one for my needs, which is wipers and a 12v plug. I'd get one with a little reserve for anything in the future.
Front wide angle lights and rear backups are my next project. I am going to use these http://www.ebay.com.au:80/itm/ws/eBayIS ... TQ:AU:1123 for both I think. I need to find them somewhere with cheaper shipping though, or at least combine shipping. They also sell the marine wipers.
