Dual Master Cylinder?

Post by dstrausb1 »

Hello again board.
My master cylinder has started to leak.
I searched this site and found the link to the Ugly Truckling article about upgrading to a dual master cylinder.
I was wondering if this is considered to be the no-brainer way to go rather than replacing with a stock master cylinder.
Any current opinions on this?
Thanks,
Dan

For me it certainly was! I made a 1/4" thick plate to bolt to the running board where the stocker mounts, mounted up the new one by drilling 5 holes in teh plate, 3 for the original bolts and 2 for the new cylinder. I even used hte original push rod. Works betteer than the stocker, and more importantly, is much more safe in the event of a line break.

Josh,

Very interested in your solution to single MC issue.

1. What MC did you use?
2. Do you still have drum brakes (front & rear)?
3. Any chance you could post picture(s) of your installation.

THANKS

Here is a link to Ugly Tuckling which is Ray's sight follow this link for the info on the Chevy 1 ton M/C install.

I did the front disk conversion and the M/C. I can tell you that it is easy to do and is a fantastic improvement in stopping power. No comparrison to the original at all it is so much better.

XD, I used a 1978 Chevy C30 master cylinder. I mounted it up using Ray's website as an installation guide. If you feel motived, dig through my rebuild thread and there are some pictures of it in there, otherwise I can dig some up for you later as well. Josh
