What is the best type of puller to use to remove the front axle shaft bushing and oil seal. And can the bushing be used after it is removed if it is not worm beyon specs. What is the best way to check the bushing. I was looking at a race and seal tool set made by Lisle #12800 will this set cover all of the seals and races used on the M-37 ? Also are there any suggestions for split bearing pullers, is there one that will do all of the bearing on the M-37 or do I need more than one type. I think tools are listed in the Ord. 6 manual is this manual available on line.

Out of necessity (both bushings/seals stuck, and no puller) I had to go the unorthodox route:
Drain front diff,
Pulled both axle shafts,
Pulled the center chunk,
Ran a length of tubing thru one side of the housing all the way across to the opposite seal/bushing...
...then a couple of raps with a hand sledge drove out the seal and bushing,
reverse the tubing then repeat the raps for the other side.
I have no measurements and already knew I was going with new bushings and seals from VPW.

When I replaced my bushings and seals they were so worn that when I pulled the axles the bushings came out with them. But I had to use a slide hammer to remove the seals. I wouldn't reuse the bushings...

I've spent a lot of time bending wrenches over the years, and I don't recall ever reusing a bushing after having removed it. I'm not saying you can't reuse them, but I'd be very careful with regard to tolerances if I did. Usually, the bushings have been cheap enough not to bite into the budget too badly. I'd opt for replacements, myself, but it's up to you as to what you want to do. If your know your going to replace them. (Which I would do if your going through the trouble of tearing down the front end) You can sometimes get a hook on them and yank them out. Best tool to use is a seal puller which you should be able to get from the autoparts store (possible rent for an hour of so).
M37s are HMMWV in my world!
