Testing starter with 12 volts:

Post by rtquig »

Both battiers in my truck are dead. Pulled out the starter to see why it was broken, think I found the problem. Can I test the starter with 1 12 volt battery to see if it at least turns or is burnt out, or will it ruin the starter?

12 volt won't hurt it.

Thanks, I just want to see if I can get a quick spin out of it when I push in the starter lever, a second or two. It would save me putting it in the truck only to take it out again.
