dodge m37 wheel cylinders

hi,does anyone know how to tell them apart left or right ??? i dont see a "L" or "R" on mine,all i see is a casting number of#1613 on the wheel i pulled,i'm getting paranoid that they are possibly mounted on the wrong sides etc,what are the consequences if they are mounted wrong ???,thanks !!!

ARE YOU TAKING ABOUT BRAKE CYLINDERS? THOSE GO WITH THE THE BIGGER DIAMETER PISTON FORWARD, REGARDLES FRONT OR REAR. ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THE HUBS ON WHICH THE WHEEL AND BRAKE DRUM IS ON? THEN THE WHEEL LUGS WILL TELL YOU. IF THE NUTS TIGHTEN CLOCKWISE THEN THEY ARE DRIVERSIDE. IF THEY TIGHTEN COUNTERCLOCK WISE THEN PASSENGERM REGARDLESS FRONT OR REAR. AM I ANYWHERE NEAR WHAT YOU ARE ASKING? :?:

hi,talking about brake cylinders but i dont want to pull rubbers back or off,i want to tell from a part number or casting number and #1613 is all thats on the cylinder i pulled,thanks

The small diameter cup should face the front of the truck. The paragraph below gives specs for rebuilding but indicates what the orig bore diameters were when new. This is no help with part numbers to indicate L or R but IF you decide to remove the rubber boots it will give you an idea of what you have.

hi and thanks,another guy says large piston forward so although i'm really confused about this now i guess i'll go with your idea now ??? thanks

Those wheel cylinder castings were originally suppose to have an "L" for left and "R" right cast into them.
Lt cyl 924643
Lt cyl assy 1271437
Rt cyl 924642
Rt cyl assy 1271436

Large bore faces rear for both sides of the truck.

The lugs nuts & studs were originally left hand thread on the left side of the truck and right hand thread on the right side of the truck. That would mean left-tighty on the driver's side and righty-tighty on the passenger side.

Definitely larer bore to the rear shoe. This arangement applies more force to the rear shoe. This is how the engineers balanced the pressure between the two shoes as the front shoe will tend to self energize as the brakes are applied while going forward.

hi and i will go that way on them,should have known as the brake jobs on cars/truck i do for work and my evertday vehicles are that way,for some darn reason i got confused and different opinions and wasted an afternoon taking my m37's drums on/off,on,off !!! thanks to all of you who reassured me and helped !!
