Not to kick the hornet's nest, but you got me curious.
Your pictures look like those used on the 1940's W-series trucks.
My 1951 M37 has single-U shaped hooks (flat cross-section) riveted to the cargo bed.
On the cab, there are double-U bent (round cross-section) cargo hooks bolted to the bed (yes, bolted).
That said, I can't account for 55 years of my truck's history, so it could be coat hanger as far as I know.
