New memeber here in so-cal

Post by jimmy_stikx »

Hello, as stated I'm in So-Cal with a m37 I picked up in Pendleton. It died on the way to 29 palms, and I'm doing what I can to diagnose and fix it.

I have TMs 9-8030 and 9-8031 so I'll go through that first to see what I can do, might just be a fuel thing as it turns but doesn't catch.

My main apgrade concerns with it will probably be the 4bt conversion and disc brakes all around. Not sure about boosting though. Also, is there a way to sync all the gears.

If the troubleshooting needs to move, I will.

Welcome to the group. The 4BT diesel conversion and gear box upgrades are very common and many folks here can help you with those.

HELLO FRIEND AND WELCOME ONBOARD. IF YOU WERE DRIVING YOUR M, AND AS ALL WAS FINE IT JUST DIED, I WOULD CHECK TWO THINGS. FIRST LIKE YOU STATED, THE FUEL SUPPLY. CHANCES ARE THE TANK IS FULL OF RUST PARTICLES AND GASOLINE VARNISHES. IF YOU HAVE SUPPLY OF FUEL, AND THE CARB DOES NOT APPEAR BLOCKED, THEN CHECK THE SPARK. MAYBE YOUR POINTS ARE WORN OUT OR OUT OF ADJUSTMENT, AND THEY ONLY LASTED THIS MUCH DRIVING. I AM 90 % SURE YOUR PROBLEM IS ONE OF THESE TWO. NOT MUCH MONEY INVOLVED IN THIS FIX, RATHER A FAIR AMOUNT OF ELBOW GREASE. IF YOU FIND THAT THE FUEL IS DIRTY DUE TO THE TANK, A DISPOSABLE FUEL FILTER IN LINE PRIOR TO YOUR PUMP MIGHT BE A GOOD INVESTMENT
LIFE IS SHORT AND ENDS UNEXPECTEDLY. MAKE EVERY MOMENT WORTH REMEMBERING.

GOOD MORNING, AND WELCOME.
Soon after i got my M I was out testing and it died. towed it back to the yard, got it started, went out on the roat and it soon died again. Long story short, it would idle fine but once on the road and under load it would die. It was a old rubber fuel hose had colapsed, i guess from the new alhohol loaded fuel. Replace all the rubber fuel hoses with new and improved, no problems since.
GOOD LUCK BOB
