Yeah, I used to get the "I like your big jeep" comments all the time when I had my (first) M37 and then with the WC51. Despite some negativity, I try to look at this way, at least they thought enough about your vehicle to say something nice and not something negative. I knew some MV (Dodge) owners in the PNW who would routinely get flipped off or cursed out by the public because they thought these MVers were in the active military.

One odd experience that comes to mind with the general public and my Dodge was when I was at a shop talking with the owner when a guy came over and said "I like your jeep" to me (had the WC51 at the time) and I replied "thanks, but it's a Dodge". He kept saying "yeah that's a nice jeep" and other comments with the word jeep in it all the time he had a sarcastic expression on his face. I think he was trying to get a rise out of me. Didn't work as I've learned to ignore idiots.

I got my first M37 in in 1972 and have had many since then and have had lots of comments about big Jeep, nice Jeep and one guy questioned "Is that a Hummer?" and another "That big Japanese Jeep copy should not have US markings." I have been told the M37 was a WWII truck", "imported from England" and that it "Was never used by the US Army because it's a civ. Power Wagon that someone fixed up to look like an army truck."

Lots of these people have an idea in their mind about what they see and don't want to hear anything that indicates they might be wrong. I tell them what it is and have given up trying to correct the stubborn ones who know in their mind I am wrong and have told me so. I went so far one time as to show one Doubting Thomas an orig. TM 9-8030 manual showing him photos of the truck and the manual date. He insisted the book was a reprint and they had used the wrong date and pix.

I usually thank them all for looking at my rig and telling me about it and make no other comments about how wrong they are, I suspect they go away feeling I must be the dumbest truck owner they ever met who knows absolutely nothing about the "Big Jeep" he drives.

LOL, you guys should drive a M151 for a while! We have a 05 Jeep Rubicon so we do the "Jeep wave"......yes it is a jeep thing!! Though this being said, I dont wave to unlimited's :D Anyways, when I drive the M151, every jeep owner waves. If I stop, its "WOW NICE WILLY'S!!!!" Guess I cant win.

It is nice when a guy walks up to me and says "What a great little vehicle........until you turn it"

I've owned two of those and if all goes well, someday I'll own another one. I had a fellow stop by right after I got my M151A1 and look it over. He was a civilian jeeper so the mutt was very interesting to him with it's indipendant suspention and horizontal grill slots. He mentioned that he owned one of the "square head light" jeeps (wrangler?) and that his friends who either owned TJs or CJs used to tease him about it. They'd say something like "real jeeps have round headlights". I mentioned that he could reply to them from me that real jeeps have stars on their hoods and carry machine guns. He thought that was funny-wonder if he ever used it on his friends?

Square Headlight wrangler........ mac guyver was a TV series many years ago. Govt adventures where he could get him self out of a jam with his pocket knife and a gum wrapper. He drove a wrangler.
Now if we were talkin CJ, we would call it a "daisy duke" as she drove a white eagle edition in the orig tv series. :D

But if I really had to go there, the white rubicon from the new dukes of hazzard movie.......well 8)

I used to drive an M38 for awhile. Lots of people commented that it was a nice jeep. I never got tired of seeing the wide-eyed looks when I told them it wasn't a jeep, but a Ford...

Actually, the M38 was a Willys design but Willys wasn't capable of building enough of them fast enough, so the contract went to Ford. The M151 was Ford "all the way."

AM Gerneral also built M151s. Did not know that Ford also produced the M38. Thought that was intirely Willys.......Learn something new everyday.
