steering wheele

Having a load of trouble taking off the steering wheele. What is holding this thing on the shaft. i have a puller that is the type that uses the bang theory just like a dent puller for the body only much larger i have been using this thing for days. i have looked in the book and they show a puller using the center shaft but this thing will not budge. has anyone had any trouble pulling one of these off???? is there something that is holding it on that i may have missed??? ready to take off the body and the steering wheele is in the way---- really frustrated

Hi Newbee,
The pictures you saw of a different puller is the only sure way to get the wheel off without doing damage to the wheel, the steering shaft or yourself. I have one, and have loaned it out to many folks, and so far it has always come back. If you would like to borrow it, I will send it to you, it fits in a large flat rate box, costs about $12.50 each way, you pay the postage. You just gotta promise to send it right back.

I used penetrating spray, left it a day and then whacked the wheel off with a rubber mallet, working round the wheel as I went .

Yours sounds to be held much tighter than mine was though so I guess Tim's puller is the way to go.

You can unbolt the steering box and pull tthe whole column out so you can paint the rig. Putting in back, two people and slow as she goes.

Read this entire thread. I did a home built puller which worked just fine.
