Ok so I've decided to tackle the impossible... Got some time and decided to work on my cab.
Here are some pics.
Got a lot more to do but I think it will come out good in the end. Ran out of wire for the MIG so I need to go get some more this weekend. I'll post some more when I can.
I know some of the folks are wondering as I am, just where was your cab living before you rescued it? Road salt?
BTW, Looks like your off to a good start.
Regards
According to ledgen the truck came from the Carolinas where it had sit in a field before being pulled out and trailered to OH where I then got it in a trade/money deal for my M151. (money to me) From what I can tell the truck was AF before it went into civy FD service. The bed had been removed at some point because my bed is an Army bed with no Blue on it. Then bubba got the truck and I believe it saw many days in off road use because of the large amounts of dry mud that I got out of the frame and bed and even the cab. I think that it sat in the woods where the drivers side was exposed to the elements where the passinger side which is rust free was somehow saved. Maybe it was on a slight slope and that allowed water to sit on the driver side? Anyway that's what I know about the truck.
I meant to ask what type/model (stick/mig or tig) welder are you using.
I've been using a Lincoln Weld-Pac 3200 as well as an old NORWELD stick machine.
WOW, and was I complaining about my 151 project being rusty!!!
I'll never complain about bodywork again!!!

I got a new cab too when I thought mine original one was too far gone. Luckily, I still have it in storage.
Pretty much anything can be saved if you are willing to invest the sweat and cash to repair it.

Saving is a good thing, we all have different abilities, some more than others.
Lucky for me, I'll give most anything a shot, w/the exception of a project like Josh's, it's more than I could handle.
But it's a SWEET one!
I replaced a lot of the floor sheet metal on my M37, and the total bed floor, but that one is worse than mine was. I salute you for being up to the challenge of tackling that job. Keep up the good work!
It's getting there slowly but surely! I've done a lot of measure and remeasure and measure once more to make sure everything is lining up right.
A few more pieces in and it will be done. I also need to figure out how to but the dimple in the one brace for mounting the cab.
If I can find the time to get my roof fix on the garage maybe I'll be able to continue working out there this winter. Sorry about the picture quality the pics are from the cell phone.
I've been a little remissed on posting pics so here are a few for you. I got the floor welded in on the drivers side and since I will also be going with hanging brake peddel I welded in my toe boards. Except I ran out of wire yesterday so I have some more to do.
Once I get the cab back into a "normal" position I will clean up the welds on the inside and finish off a few things. Maybe by the end of summer I'll have it ready to sandblast and can get the frame and cab sandblasted at that time. What's that old saying about slow and steady?
