New tire cover for my M37

Post by UZIS9MM »

Hello all,

Because I go around most of the summer (and summers past) with my M37 in convertible mode I found that the sun has been playing hell with my bed mounted spare tire. The top of the spare was showing signs of premature aging from being exposed to the sun all the time so I decided to try and find a fix for the problem (besides the obvious periodic rotation of the tire – that’s to easy).

My truck in convertible mode:

I was going through some pictures on Flickr a few months ago and ran across the following photo of a WC at a show over in England. The tire cover looked like the perfect solution plus I thought it looked kinda cool.

I searched the various military canvas makers websites but couldn’t find the maker of the WC tire cover. While I did find other tire covers for the M37 at Beachwood and New Life I really didn't like the "whole tire" cover, I wanted a bikini cover like the one on the WC.

I didn’t want to copy someone elses design so I drew one up with dual straps and spring clips that would be more appropriate for the M-series. After taking all the measurements and putting the design on paper I called New Life Canvas and talked with Mona about my design, she agreed to make it up for a reasonable price and here’s how it turned out.

Here is an overall picture of the bed.

The cover definitely solved the problem it was designed for, plus it looks good too.

Opinions??

Thanks

Nice, Is Mona going to offer them or will it need to be a special order?

Bruce,

I don't know if she is going to offer them or not. I let her keep the design and gave her permission to use it as she sees fit so I'm sure if there is enough interest she would make more of them up.

I am in no way affiliated with New Life Canvas, I just used them to make my design because they are local (Minnesota based)and pleasant to talk to on the phone. When I called Beachwood they became snobbish with me, especially when I inquired about changing or altering one of their designs to fit my need.

Looks good - I like it! Fits the decor in the box just fine.

Update on the tire cover. Just got off the phone with New Life Canvas and they're saying that the tire cover is a special order item at this time, so if you are interested make sure you specify the "half tire cover" instead of the full tire cover that is normally offered. The price as told to me will be $75.00 for the tire cover and an additional $10.00 for the U.S. to be stenciled on (optional).

Carmen,

The windshield cover is offered by Beachwood Canvas and it really does come in handy. You should be able to find it in the M37 section of their online catalog.

I wasn't trying to bash Beachwood in my previous post, they make great canvas products. The person I talked to got a little excited when I asked if a design could be modified and the quote for what I suggested was quite a bit higher than I expected. Again I'm not bashing Beaschwood as I have quite a bit of their canvas on my truck and I'll continue to buy from them it's just that I won't go to them anymore for custom stuff.

I'd like the windscreen cover, but my revue mirror would hamper install/removal?
