Rebuilt Carb Pix

Post by Carter »

Bought this from John @ MidWest Military, it arrived last week and was installed Monday. I need to buy three 3/8- 16NC X 3/8- 24NF, 1 7/8" long studs for attaching the air filter horn as I am now using bolts which were not what was used originally.

I took the truck out for a test run yesterday to search for the studs at several places that sell auto parts as well as a industrial supply house but no one had what I needed.

On the drive the carb functioned well and didn't have the flat/dead spot the was the problem the old carb had, which was a Memphis Equip. rebuild that I had been using for the past 20 years. For a short time did have the trucks speed up to 50 MPH and was running with traffic instead of slowing everyone down and it just roared along with some throttle remaining but I didn't want to push it and try for the top governed speed of 55. With the strong engine I have it probably would have done it as has run that fast before, just never more than a couple of minutes. None of the vent lines had been installed when the pic was taken but were in place before the test drive, didn't want to bake the coil.

As a side note, the new Denmans I installed last winter were in balance without any weights having been added, gave no indication of vibration or being out of round. :D
Thanks for looking. Carter

Carter,

If you find a source for the studs, let me know. I need a set of those studs as well.

I'm sure they can be ordered but not likely not in 3 packs. I will likely have to get a doz. or more, so I'll send some to you if that's how they are sold. I'll keep you in mind.

Carter you have a very good looking M37. What manufacturer is your canvas from?

I bought a dozen at my local (in IL) NAPA store...but it's been 20 years ago, now, so they may not have them any more. Never hurts to ask, though. I'd send you some, but I've used 'em all up.

Thanks Wes, All the canvas for this truck is original issue US military stuff as well as another set for the red truck I am now working on that I was given when I was a NCO with the Maryland National Guards 1729th Maintenance Bn. that was turning in all of it's M37s. Since I owned one of the trucks at the time, I was asked if I wanted all the parts they had on hand including 2 sets of canvas, 2 transmissions, a transfer case, an engine, several generators and regulators and many boxes of small parts. It was a load of parts that were not on the books and they wanted them gone.

Charlie, Thanks, I checked with NAPA here in Aberdeen and they didn't have any in stock but could order them. I was trying to get some that day and told them I'd call if I found none elsewhere. The truck sure got a lot of attention at the store and it took me an hour to get out of there and continue my search.

I'm not at all surprised at the attention.

One good thing about NAPA is that if they don't have it in stock, they can order it and have it waiting for you when the doors open the next day. Just had to do that for a replacement brake caliper for my '92 Dakota, as a matter of fact. I got there 15 minutes before opening time, and the truck had already been there. The "old guy" saw me coming and had my part in his hand when I walked through the door. That's the kind of service that keeps folks coming back. :)

When I called about calipers for Sandy's Hundai they delivered them my house the next day :D because I had no way to pick them up at the store and told them that when I phoned in the order.

Yep! AutoZone might be just a tad cheaper on some things, but they won't give you service like that! :)
