2010 East Coast MV Rally Pix, still more added

Post by Carter »

Yesterday I posted these shots here but this morning they are missing, not sure what happened so I have provided a link to the Webshots album instead of directly reposting them. More pix later today in this album. http://news.webshots.com/album/577751467jfRnMD

Thanks for the pictures! I'll bet that DUKW was a traffic stopper! About how many people and how many MVs were there there?

MAYBE next year!

Thanks for looking at the pictures, I have posted many more in the album. The Duck got a lot of attention and it's gas powered .50 cal. was LOUD, made nearby folks stop and look.The visitor and vehicle count would be over several hundred of the former and over a hundred for the latter. The place was jammed with folks shopping, checking out the MVs and taking pix. A wide assortment of all types of military trucks were available to look at and many willing owners talking about their rides. Venders also probably numbered in the hundreds with almost anything military offered for sale. The weather has been great but showers are forcast for tomorrow afternoon, the last day of the rally. More shots tomorrow.

Carter;

Where were you brother? The boys and I were at the show today and looked for you. We saw Ralph's truck, and we talked to Cabel Garbee but we didn't run into you.

Didn't rent a sales spot this year Nick so I was roaming around checking vendors sale items, talking to old friends, making new ones and taking photos. Are you going to be back there tomorrow?

No that's not me in the photo.

Jim said that was a 30+ year old complete body off frame restoration that he did Bruce, he mantains it well and it looks as good in person as it does in the shot I took. The canvas is orig. military and not a new made reproduction set.

Jim lives in my neck of the woods, I think I met him several years ago at Ft. Lee. I seem to remember I bought a part or two from him :?:

Carter;

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make it back to the show today. My kids have baseball and soccer games scheduled all weekend. We had one game this morning and we are about to head out for another. Wish we could've met up. Did you see the guy selling the guns? I bought one of his type 99 Arisakas yesterday. Never ever expected to see working guns for sale there, much less an Arisaka. I go to gun shows looking for Arisakas and don't usually find one for sale at anything but a ridiculously high price. This gun if for sale at a gun show would probably have been offered at no less than about $250, and I doubt the guy would have agreed to a price $50 dollars less than asked.

Sounds like the law of supply and demand is still in force, Nick. At the last gun show I attended, some 30 years ago, Arisaka rifles were going for less than $10.00 in "excellent" condition. I got one in "good" condition for $6.00 and was mildly ticked that the guy wouldn't settle for $5.00. I had to borrow a buck from my brother!

Wow, $6.00 wouldn't buy you the bolt that holds the buttplate on these days. My how times have changed.

I did see the Arisakas offered Nick, it was at the same spot where they had Mosins and some Remington 03-A3 drill rifles available. Don't know how they got away with selling live rifles, the show rules stated "no live firearms" but there they were. How much did you have to pay for it?

Lifer you got a hell of a deal at $6.00, 40+ years ago I used to see them offered in the American Rifleman for $10. but not ever for $6. you are a lucky man Charlie. :D

I put the last batch of pictures in the Webshots album this morning so now all have been posted, check them out if you care to. Carter

Mosins offered at the rally: :shock:

Carter;

I paid $150 for the gun I took home. He wanted $200 for them, but I told him flat out that they aren't going to sell for that price since they all had mismatched serial numbers save the one Type 38. I'd have bought that one, but I don't have the capability to reload for the 6.5X55 so have just been interested in Type 99's.

Yeah, I'm surprised the dude got away with selling live firearms myself. And that crate was full of 91/30's when he opened it, because we were there looking at the Type 99's when he brought out the crate. He said he was keeping 20 Mosins for himself so I can only imagine he had another crate since each crate holds about 20 rifles. He was selling the guns privately so no paperwork needed. After we put my gun in the truck and after we ate lunch we walked by his booth again and the four guns were gone from the crate so I imagine he did sell a few of them. $125 for a 91/30 in that condition is a good price, even without the bayonet, cleaning kit and ammo pouch.

Actually the Springfield drill rifles were being sold a few rows over from this particular guy. I had some dude ask me if I knew anything about guns when we walked up to them, and when I told him they weren't real but only parade guns he got kind of an embarassed look on his face and walked away.....I think he actually might have thought they were real 1903's. I wonder if the cop I saw walking around checked out that guy sellling the guns? He was still there late into the afternoon when we walked by him one more time, so I guess he was allowed to stay. Somebody must've bought the parade guns though because when we cruised by his stand again later in the day the ywere all gone. Unless of course maybe the seller put them away or something.
