My '51 M37 looks like it still has the original seat covers in it. (Can you say RAGGED!?) I have a new seat of covers that I was going to install but when I looked at the original covers I noticed several problems. First, the cover is stapled to the wooden base and there is no drawstring it and it doesn't appear that there ever was. Has anyone else found this? Second, the edge of the cover completely covers the hook that's supposed to be used with the over-center latch to hold the seat on. It doesn't look like the seat was ever fastened down in this M37! Finally, the cover also covers the holes in the corners of base of the seat that the pegs on the seat frame are supposed to go into. You can see by the marks on the cover that the pegs were hitting it and not going into the holes.
Sooo, what's the proper way to install a new seat cover without it covering the holes and hook? I COULD cut holes in the fabric for the pegs and hook to go through but that doesn't seem like a good idea! Also should I staple it on or use a drawstring?

I simply cut a slot in the canvas for mine. The seat base pins were not an issue on my base?
