I am sure there are exceptions but for basic stuff the wiring numbers are the same for e.g. 21 will be the service taillight, 17 will be high beam head light 18 low beam etc.

Should the needles jump upon ignition? Good question with several correct answers. You likely have a volt meter rather than an amp gauge. If so it should move to the yellow zone upon ignition, then move on to the green zone when the system is charging. Fuel gauge should move to where ever the sender says depending on fuel level upon ignition. Oil pressure should do one of 2 things, if the needle rest randomly when ignition is turned off, it should move to 0 upon ignition. If it rest at 0 every time the ignition is turned off, if you watch closely, you should see a slight momentary jump upon ignition. The same is true with the temp gauge. The reason some react one way & some another way is due to the military standard gauges were from more than 1 manufacturer. Gauges of various manufacture react in various ways. What I'm saying is if yours happens to have 2 gauges from the same manufacturer & 2 from another, 2 may react in the same fashion upon ignition while the others from a different manufacturer may react totally different. If you get what you consider correct readings after the engine starts & warms up, this is what is important.

TOM R yes the horn plug is at the lower end of the steering wheel and connects to another plug that comes from within the frame near the steering box.

The two best references for electrical work are (1) the schematic (or wiring diagram) of the stock truck and (2) the list of wire numbers and circuits. The second one helps when you find one end of a wire with just a tag - it can tell you what it SHOULD be connected to.

Both will result in much less head-scratching, as will dandruff shampoo.

If you need either (not the shampoo) , I can email them to you (once I find 'em).

ok got some stuff working and was gonna hook up the drivers side lites and the # don't seem to match plus i am short a wire i think

The schematic you mentioned above is the one you need. The wires that don't match - do they have number tags on them? If so, that can help you/us figure out what they are.

figured that, when I get a chance i will write down what is on the lites vs the wires, think the # on the lites match the schematic but some of the the # on the harness do not on this side of the truck

So much about wiring, But when I had my M35A2, I had a table showing numbers commonly used by the military in various vehicles. gave the list when I sild the truck. Drat ! Does anyone know where to get a copy? peter Mark

ok i have a wire on the drivers side off one of the front lites #460 and nothing to plug into on the harness, i do not have turn signals on this truck if that helps, the only lites on the front i see not working are the ones that are clear with the magnifying lens, bo 's all work high low headlites work and park lites workones next to park do not

#460 & #461 are left & right front turn signals. If your truck is not equipped with a turn signal system, you will have no wiring harness in which to plug these wires. A turn signal system has its own individual harness & will not be part of the main or chassis wiring harness.
