Pull that bumper!

Post by Cal_Gary »

Saturday offered the opportunity to pull mine and prep for the frame extensions and winch. Just pulling the bumper took 3 hours, a can of blaster, a cheater pipe and a BFH, but I got it off. Nothing like the protestations of 50+ year old bolts that don't want to give it up: scree, scree, scree a 6th of a turn at a time for some of the hard-to-reach bolts! Thankfully none rounded off, and three saved me by just snapping off! No impact wrench so I feel today like I rowed a boat across the bay-sore shoulders, arms, and back but I got it off. It is beat all to pieces as I knew it would be.

Anyway, that gave me good access to the front leaf-spring mounts which I need to replace anyway, so I'll tackle that this weekend before adding the extensions and winch.

Gotta love those stubborn, rusty bolt workouts  I miss them, especially that squeaking sound of a nut coming off a 1/4 turn at a time, that means its time to find another project truck  Glad to hear you did not have to torch anything.

Reassemble with liberal amounts of Never-Seize. That stuff works wonders!

At least for the next time!
