OT: Gun value book

The facility I work at will be closing early next year and i will be without a job. May have time to work on the M but will need $$ for parts, etc. So, considering selling some of my guns.

There is a book of gun values that may dealers and smiths use, I do not recall the title.

Does anyone out there have a recent copy of such a book and would be willing to look up some values for me? If so please e-mail me at 52m37@charter.net.

No book is going to be current enough to even be of any help. Do not waste the time.
In this current economy, like many collectables, some have held their higher values, but some have slipped.
Gun Broker is good to watch, but you have to be careful, as prices are thrown out there, but no one bites.
If you have a particular model (especially military) throw it out here on this forum and you will come up with a very good educated guess.
And there is www.gunboards.com which is a multi-forum web-site with many experts.

Another factor to consider is the potential buyer's location. For example, a particular gun may be "worth more" in a wide-open state like Montana than it would be in densely packed Rhode Island. If a gun is in good condition, a guy is gonna want to shoot it now and then. If all he wants is a "wall hanger," there are plenty of worn out guns out there that will fill his needs at a (usually) much lower price.

Lifer - that is so true on location, he needs to tell us what type of guns he is trying to sell. Location has a lot to do with it. But that is why I am saying that the guns need to be listed on a site like gun broker to get more national exposure.
But like most collectables right now, you have to realize that right now may not be the time to sell in this low market.

I have been keeping an eye on Harper's Ferry 1816 flint locks. A year or so ago, excellant ones went for close to $3,000.00 now you can buy in the $1,200.00 range. That is the gun my ggGrandfather was issued in 1847 with the war with Mexico.
